Graphic recording at Masters of Digital 2024
Masters of Digital is an annual conference organised by DIGITALEUROPE where people discuss the future of digital technologies in the EU and beyond. This year the focus was on the growing use of AI, how to expand the single market, digital healthcare, skills of the future and many more topics.
My role as graphic recorder was to capture the main ideas and create visual summaries of each session. The event was very well organised and they really made the most of having a graphic recorder present. I wrote up the experience in a separate case study which you can read here.
The power of live graphic recording
I was set up in outside of the conference room in the gathering area and throughout the day, my iPad was projected to a screen behind me. This meant that people could follow the drawing as it happened in real time which was a lot of fun for them, and for me. The graphic recording also got projected into the main room from time to time and there were several moments where panel participants would interact with the drawing and tell me what to add or what to focus on. This kind of interaction was a unique experience and made the work feel impactful and important.
Highlight: Live illustrating the speech of the Belgian prime minister Alexander De Croo
One of the best moments was definitely the speech of Belgian prime minister Alexander De Croo. He gave a really great speech about what it takes to stay competitive based on how cities stayed competitive throughout the centuries. It was truly an honour to capture his speech live!
Audience feedback: A source of inspiration
The best part of the event was the feedback I received from the attendees. People came up throughout the day to express how my visual notes helped them better understand complex topics and gave them a new perspective on what they were hearing. That kind of feedback is priceless. It reinforced why I love doing what I do, helping people connect with information in a creative and meaningful way.
