Illustrations for the CIDSE Ecological Footprint website

When CIDSE decided to create a website for its network where they can assess and recuse their environmental impact, they wanted to include a set of specific illustrations to make the website more lively and inviting. After discussing the goal and tone of the website, we specified the different subtopics and came up with a list of illustrations, including small spots and larger, more complex images.

How did the use of illustrations contribute to this project?

Visuals are vital for websites, because without them, the content can become too dry and difficult to digest for users. For the type of website CIDSE wanted to create, they basically had two options, either go with stock photos that they and others usually rely on, or invest in custom illustrations that are tailor-made to their content and where they can also have a creative say in what is depicted.

The importance of co-creation with the clients

As an illustrator, it’s very important to me that clients get a say in the creative input. I involve them right from the beginning and they can provide feedback (in a controlled way) throughout the process. The result is a set of visuals that correspond perfectly to the needs of the client and that they can use after the project for a long time to come.
